My name is Alys, which is pronounced the same as ‘Alice’ 🙂 I used to hate it (I’ve never owned stationery with my name on – sad times) but now I love the fact I rarely see anyone with the same name!

I’m a travel enthusiast and have loved travelling for as long as I can remember.

My passion for seeing new places was discovered thanks to some amazing family holidays; from Arizona to Croatia to South Africa. Aged 18, I embarked on my first backpacking experience – a solo trip to China and South East Asia. I returned to the UK for University, where I worked two or three jobs through the semesters to save enough money to disappear during the long Summer breaks.

After Uni, my first job was working for STA Travel as a Travel Expert – it was nothing to do with my degree but it meant I could talk to people all day every day about weird and wonderful travel destinations – amazing! But, it also made me very jealous of all the incredible trips I was helping to plan. I learnt a lot about airlines, flights, tour companies and travel in general which has proved invaluable as I now plan my own adventures 🙂

I’ve since ventured to 33 countries, 6 US States and have visited 4 out of 5 continents – just Antarctica to go!

I studied Ecology at University and love getting outdoors and amongst nature. Walking barefoot along a beach (or pretty much anywhere), hiking through mountains, exploring woodland or exploring underwater; I love being outside!

I’m a HUGE animal lover and always have been. It’s almost impossible to choose a favourite but otters, pigs and red pandas all rank pretty highly.

Because of my love of animals, I’m also vegan 🙂 Want to know why? Head to my ‘Why Vegan?‘ page! Curious to know how I became vegan? My vegan story has all the details…

I’m slightly obsessed with food! I love trying new restaurants and new dishes, so food is always a big part of my travels 🙂

I love visiting new countries to taste test the best vegan and vegetarian options, finding veggie-friendly alternatives to traditional foods. I keep the blog updated with the best street food and restaurants from around the world!

    Hi Alys,

I love your blog, and have nominated you for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept, is to:

    a) mention and link to me in your post
    b) answer my questions and
    c) link to 10 other female travel bloggers.

    Share the love!

    Your questions are:

    1. What is it about travel that you love?

    2. How did you come up with your blog name?

    3. What has been your most surprising travel experience?

    4. What are the top three places on your travel bucket list?

    5. What is a travel moment that will always stay with you?

    6. What is the number one thing you take on all your travels?

    7. If you could pick anyone (dead or alive) to sit next to on a long-haul flight, who would it be?

    8. What is your favourite blog post?

    9. What is the one place you would love to return?

    10. What is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

I can’t wait to read your answers!

I just returned from a 4-week trip across Russia and was quite happy to find great vegan options even in places like Irkutsk and Vladivostok. Just stumbled on your blog while searching for something related to Irkutsk !
