This weekend I spent my Sunday with a bunch of lovely ladies, talking all things beauty and blogging! I first stumbled across the event when searching Google for ‘Norwich Blogger Meet Ups’ after realising that a large number of these kind of events take place in London. Being new to the blogging scene, I signed up to a few, spending a small fortune on train tickets in the process! It was great to find a selection of bloggers and events right on my doorstep 🙂
NORWICH BLOGGERS MEET UP 2015
The event started at 1pm at The Garden House pub, which is conveniently just a 5 minute walk from my house. Especially convenient when you are wearing giant wedged heels! I arrived to find the event had been set up in the pub’s huge garden. We were housed underneath a big sheltered patio area which provided some much needed refuge from the 27 degree heat! The first half an hour or so was spent mingling with the other bloggers and admiring Just-Essential’s pretty display. Following this, the ‘Norwich Bloggers’ (made up of Courteney, Justine and Hannah) introduced the day’s schedule; yoga, social media and photography workshops, live music and hair tutorials!
I wasn’t dressed for yoga and didn’t want to put people off their Sunday lunch, so sat that one out and chatted to some of the other girls about their blogs instead!. It was great to see a good mix of blog styles, although the majority fell within the categories of beauty, fashion and/or lifestyle. I think I was the only travel blogger…
After yoga it was time for a social media workshop from Matt, who works in marketing/PR. After briefly summarising his job role, the workshop was mainly used as a platform for a question and answer session. This was great as many of the girls asked questions that I also wanted to know the answer to! He mentioned a couple of useful social media management tools that I either hadn’t heard of, or hadn’t yet used to their full potential. Eg. Hootsuite and Feedling. He also covered some useful Google tools such as Google Trends and Google Keyword Planner. One point I found particularly interesting was when Matt discussed how he didn’t think that being specific in blogging was that much of a big deal. I’d always heard how important it is to ‘find your niche’ and avoid being to vague, but his advice was to just blog about what you love. If that means blogging about ‘knitting and skiing’, then so be it! A couple of times in the past I’ve found myself avoiding more ‘lifestyle’ based posts, worried that they won’t fit with my travel themed blog. When actually, the blog should be for ME and what I love, so why not post what I want!
After Matt’s talk, everyone broke off to grab some food, play jenga or twister, browse the beauty display or top up their drinks! I decided to order some food from the BBQ which was smelling amazing. I headed to the bar to order, deciding on a ‘feta and onion burger’ which I presumed was veggie. The poor guy at the BBQ was overwhelmed with orders as the pub was so busy. After waiting 20 mins or so, I was presented with my burger – a giant meat burger topped with feta and onion! OOOOPS. I dashed back to the bar to let someone know what I’d done, and they very kindly let me swap my order to a portabello mushroom burger!! It was worth waiting for – it was the best veggie burger I’ve ever had. The biggest mushroom I’ve ever seen, stuffed with blue cheese and topped with roasted red peppers. I even managed to wangle some caramelised onions on the giant crusty bread roll too – amazing!
After demolishing the giant burger, it was time for some hair tutorials with Lucy. She showed us three up-do looks, using french plaits in two and twists in another. I’m pretty good with french plaiting but have never tried the looks she created, so will have to give it a go! Following the hair tutorials, there was some live music from Hannah, which was was great. We all chilled out in the sunshine, listening to her beautiful voice 🙂
After her set, there was a photography workshop on how to take great photos for your blog. Unfortunately I could feel a migraine coming on, so missed most of it as I was busy gulping down pints of water to delay the onset! I soon decided I was probably best to call it a day and headed home a little early. Before I left, I was handed my GIANT goody-bag of treats! I can’t actually believe how much stuff was in there! A huge array of makeup, cleansers, shampoo samples, hairspray, hair oil, makeup brushes, sweets, crisps, discount vouchers and more… I can’t wait to try everything out! 🙂 Although I did end up with a black lipstick, so I don’t know if I’ll be trying that one any time soon……
It was a great day, spent with some lovely bloggers and so nice to not have to trek miles or pay lots of money to attend. I’m already looking forward to the next one! If you’re a blogger in Norwich, check out their Twitter page – @Norwich_Blogger 🙂
